Alumni

Are you worried about what life after rehab will look like? You’re not alone —addiction often leaves us feeling isolated, so the prospect of leaving the close community of rehab can be frightening. But that is where the UKAT Alumni Network comes in! With all your recovery peers from Liberty House and graduates from UKAT’s other country-wide clinics, you won’t have to figure out post-rehab life on your own.

Alumni

What is UKAT Alumni?

UKAT Alumni is like a big family for everyone who’s been through rehab at a UKAT clinic. We first started our Alumni Network back in 2017 and there are now over 1,000 members, and it keeps growing! You will catch up with all of the people you shared your time in Liberty House with and also meet a whole lot of new friends who have undergone treatment with us.

UKAT’s addiction Alumni Group is a warm, friendly community where you don’t have to explain yourself and where you won’t be judged or misunderstood. Why? Because everyone is walking the same path. You can swap tips, share laughs and keep each other going in those tricky times that always emerge in post-rehab recovery.

What are the benefits of UKAT Alumni?

There is an old saying among addiction experts that the opposite of addiction isn’t sobriety; it’s connection. All UKAT rehab clinics ensure you get that connection for the first year following treatment through our addiction aftercare programmes. This provides free outpatient group therapy every week which is designed to dampen the initial shock of transitioning back to everyday life.

But Liberty House and our sister clinics are committed to going further. Admittance to UKAT’s addiction Alumni Network begins the day you leave Liberty House and is completely free for the rest of your life. It provides a whole host of addiction recovery benefits, which include:

Peer addiction support

With UKAT Alumni, you’re never far from someone who understands. You can connect through meetups or hop onto our private Facebook groups to chat about your journey, getting addiction support no matter where you are.

Relapse prevention

Leaving Liberty House’s substance-free sanctuary can be a serious shock to the system. Suddenly, you will be back dealing with a list of personal responsibilities and potentially among people who don’t have your best interests at heart.

But when cravings hit, or these influences trigger difficult emotions, UKAT Alumni will have your back. You will find practical advice, a supportive ear and reminders of the tools you picked up in rehab. This can be just as useful as speaking to your therapists because you are getting real-world advice from other people in addiction recovery.

Renewed commitment to addiction recovery

Staying committed to addiction recovery after rehab can be tough, and it can be easy to make excuses for slipping a little. The UKAT Alumni community can keep you accountable when you no longer have Liberty House’s team to watch over you.

There are regular check-ins, podcasts, newsletters and calls with all these little reminders helping you stay focused and motivated when the emphasis is more on you.

Friends to celebrate your milestones with

Every step forward in addiction recovery deserves recognition and UKAT Alumni make sure you have people to celebrate with. Whether it’s your first week sober or your fifth-year drug- or alcohol-free, our addiction alumni will cheer you on, remind you how far you’ve come and make those milestones feel truly special.

Regular fun events

The UKAT Alumni programme isn’t just about getting addiction support – it’s about having a good time, too! We host events all year, like adventure days, summer BBQs (if the weather behaves), Christmas parties and talks from inspiring guest speakers.

These events let you catch up with your Liberty House peers, meet new people from other UKAT centres and enjoy yourself in a friendly space. All of this will enable you to build a social life around addiction recovery and celebrate just how far you’ve come.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to pay to join the UKAT Alumni Network?
Not at all. If you’ve finished rehab at Linwood House, you’re automatically included in the UKAT Alumni Programme at no cost. Whether you stay for two weeks or a few months, you will have free lifelong access to ongoing addiction support and a welcoming community without any strings attached.
How long can I stay in the Alumni Network?
Forever. Yep, once you join the UKAT Alumni, you are part of our community for the rest of your life. Whether you wrapped up rehab last week or a decade ago, you will always be a valued member of the UKAT Alumni community.
Will I get support if I relapse?
Relapsing doesn’t mean starting over and you don’t have to face it alone. UKAT Alumni offers both encouragement from others who have been there and guidance from experts to help you start over. Slip-ups happen but they don’t define your recovery, especially with our community here to back you up.
